Why Does the Media Build Up Politicians to Celebrity Status?

It seems unfortunate that the media is so quick to go do a story on a politician, and so slow to do a story on a soccer mom who works two jobs, volunteers at the PTA, and raises two children. Because in reality we are all Americans, and the only difference between the soccer mom and the politician is that the soccer mom has more integrity, and is more levelheaded and transparent. One problem with the media building up politicians into men that are 10 feet tall is that it isn't true.

Worse, after they are done building them up, what they do, they turn around and tear them down. Not that they don't deserve to be brought back into perspective, or that the truth be told - rather the problems is that it was the media in the first place that perpetuated the lie, that made these folks into something they were not, when they are just regular people to begin with. Unfortunately, the politicians themselves actually start believing that line, they start acting like Superman with unearned ego's and quite frankly that's dangerous for all of us.

In many regards it may not be the politician's fault, although they should know better, and know themselves, but I suppose being on the front page of the newspaper every day changes how you see yourself, and it definitely changes how people treat you in public, and how other people see you. The reality is our politicians are of the people, and they are regular people, and it is supposed to be that way. Further, they work for us, not themselves, but they soon forget that after being thrust into celebrity status.

In the end no one is served very well, because the politician is no longer himself, forgets his upbringing, or any moral character he thought he had before he started, and us citizens put too much faith in these individuals that are well beyond the Peter Principle, as they've been elevated far higher than they should have ever been able to achieve, and they are caught in a no-win situation, as they get caught up in their own lies, and lives.

Perhaps we could solve some of the problems we have in our country with their leaders if the media would back off, and stop perpetuating and manipulating false realities. Of course, in the end the media need something to write about, and they have to make a big deal out of nothing, including promoting these individuals who are no better than you or I, and certainly not as dedicated as our soccer moms. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.
