The soccer World Cup being held in South Africa has reached the half stage as international football teams advance towards the ultimate winning of the Jules Rimet trophy.
Jules Rimet was a Frenchman who was a key player in the very first World Cup in the soccer world, away back in 1930 and the tournament was held in Uruguay, and in a much more simple form than today. Jules Rimet was in charge of the international competition for some twenty four years and he saw it develop into one of the world's biggest sporting occasions.
Apparently he was a character with drive and initiative and the trophy for the tournament was named to honour his work and to recognise his organising skills. What he had accomplished is remembered in this lasting testimony.
There is another testimony which is much larger than that of the World Cup, or for that matter any other sporting competition.
Writing as a Christian, a committed disciple of the risen and living Lord Jesus Christ, we learn from the Bible, from the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments that the whole of Creation is a testimony to and confirmation of the power and goodness of our Almighty God.
Over these past thirty years I have been a serious student of Creation and in all my reading I have not come across one piece of hard evidence to support any theory of evolution. It has been a great joy and privilege to have taught Creation in schools and prison and in various churches. No, not everyone believes what I teach, but no-one has as yet come up to me and has shown me that that part of the Bible is just wrong.
God created the day and night, and the seas and the sky, and the birds in the air and the fish in the sea, and the land with every plant and animal upon the land, and finally he created man.
Jesus had no problem with this. We read in the Gospels of Jesus quoting from Genesis Chapter 1 and 2. And, Jesus had no difficulty with the record of the Flood either.
God created and the Bible teaches that it only took Him six days. He has almighty power and he can create and when everything was created he saw that it was good and very good. Do read these opening Chapters of Genesis and check it all out because no one would say today that everything is good and very good.
Sin came in and caused havoc and chaos and suffering and pain and even death!
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, and even in its sinful fallen state the beauty around us in various parts of the world point to our Creator God who sent Jesus Christ to rescue us and save us from our sins.
