Exercising With Balls

There are a couple kinds of balls you can use to help you exercise, lose weight, and get in shape. The first is an exercise ball. They are large rubber bouncy balls that are strong enough to support your weight. Many people use exercise balls in place of office chairs to increase their posture, as well as strengthen their back and abdominal muscles. You can also use it to aid in sit-ups and other floor exercises. Varying the position of your body, and it's distance from the ground can vary the muscles you use while doing the same exercises. There are videos you can buy that will guide you through exercising with an exercise ball. You can also take an exercise ball class, and then take what you learned to work out at home.

Another type of ball you can incorporate into your exercise routine is a medicine ball. The medicine ball is generally about the size of a volleyball and weighs between 20 and 30 pounds. You can get exercise balls in different sizes and weights. The original purpose of these balls were to help athletes train and rehabilitate after sports injuries. It is a less stressful form of weight lifting. You can buy an exercise ball for your home gym to use as a weight. You can play catch with an exercise partner using a medicine ball. For a really hard exercise, which will work every muscle in your body, you can play catch with the medicine ball while standing on a balance board. It will force you to constantly adjust your weight to not fall and still catch the ball.

Another type of ball you can use is a sports ball. For example, you can pick up a basketball, volleyball or soccer ball and go play. These are all very physically active sports, which will keep you moving. Getting involved in sports is a fun way to work exercise into your routine.
