Solo Professional Working From Home - What's Great About It, Reason #7 - More Personal Time

If you want to "follow your bliss" to work at what you love so that you love your work, then doing it from home will sweeten the deal. Not the least because of the control you have over your personal time, resulting in more time for friends, family and fun.

There are so many benefits to running a business from your home. I've identified "eight great traits of being a home-based solopreneur" that I'm taking turns going into detail on:

1. Freedom

2. Flexibility

3. Lots of Variety

4. Less Stress

5. Lower Expenses

6. Tax Advantages

7. More Control over Personal Time

8. Relaxed Dress Code!

The focus of this article is on trait #7 - MORE PERSONAL TIME.

Because being your own boss means you can control your own schedule, you can create and manage more personal time. The result is being able to spend more quality time with those who are important to you. Family, friends and fun can be worked into your life in a way that's not stressful.

When you work for someone else, if they say you stay late to get a project done, then you may miss tucking your kid in. If you're told you have to travel to a distant client during a time that just happens to coincide with your spouse's birthday, then you'll have to figure out how to celebrate later. Your lunches, maybe breakfasts, and even dinners may be about meetings, not friend or family time. You may miss your kid's school play or softball game because of a work crunch. A serious corporate career can definitely put a damper on your personal time.

But being your own boss, working from your home space, can free you to create the time you want for the things you want. If you're a parent, you can see the kids off to school in the morning without the mad rush that requires you to get both them and you ready to leave the house. If you want, you can be home when they return from school. It's easier to plan and prepare dinner, and therefore you can enjoy a more leisurely meal with your family. If someone is sick, it's easier to leave your home's desk than one in someone else's office to care for them or run them to the doctor. If a friend needs to talk, you can lend an ear during the middle of the day. You can take your elderly mother to her doctor appointment in the morning or make afternoon visiting hours for you ailing grandfather. If you want to coach your kid's soccer team or be a scout master, you can make the schedule work for you. You can linger over a long lunch with a friend. You can work in morning tennis or afternoon golf.

You can much more easily integrate your personal and professional life when you're on your own.
