How to Heal Afghanistan With Sports

One way to strengthen the Afghanistan nation is to do so through sports. We know that kids and students in Afghanistan like to play soccer, and they like to fly kites. In this case we should have contests with kites, and we should give soccer balls to all the families. We should assist the Afghans in building soccer fields, setting up goal posts, and even helping to train soccer coaches in all the communities. We should also set up soccer leagues as we have in the United States with AYSO.

If we keep the kids focused on sports, and keep them healthier and happier, they are less likely to be recruited by the Taliban. We could round up one person from every village, and one person from each block in the larger cities, and bring them to a soccer camp in the United States. We could teach them all there is to learn about their favorite sport. Then when they go back to they can be the coaches for all the kids.

Did you know that the Iraqi national soccer team is up and running again? And did you know they are playing other countries, and they are even winning some games? By setting up national championships, and youth league programs, this will provide a feeding program to the upper levels. If the kids play together, compete together, and work together on a team for a common goal there will be less sectarian violence.

Sometimes the answers are so simple, but we don't realize. Sometimes we spend money on the wrong things when trying to help other nations. If we truly care about the cultures of these other nations, and truly wish to help them, we have to do it on their terms and help them with what they love. We need to help them help themselves to become great again. Indeed, I hope you will please consider all this.
