Championship Betting Review

Runaway leaders Reading suffered their first League defeat in 33 games at the hands of Luton on Friday night. The in-form Kevin Doyle put the 9/10 Royals ahead but were stunned with two goals from Rowan Vine and one from Dean Morgan. Doyle pulled one back for Reading in stoppage time but Luton had done enough to earn an unlikely win at odds of 14/5.

Sheffield United took advantage and cut Reading's lead to nine points with a derby victory away at city rivals Wednesday. Michael Tonge and Ade Akinbiyi netted for the Blades before half-time before the Owls hit back 10 minutes from time with a Steve MacLean penalty. The 5/4 win for Neil Warnock's side was United's first double over Wednesday for 14 years.

Watford climbed above Leeds to claim third place in the table after beating second-from-bottom Brighton at the Withdean Stadium. The Hornets withstood early pressure from the home side but secured a narrow 1-0 victory at 11/10 thanks to a Chris Eagles goal on the stroke of half-time.

Leeds were held to a draw at Leicester, despite the home side playing 79 minutes with just 10 men. Iain Hume put the Foxes in front after five minutes before Patrick McCarthy was sent off for a foul on Rob Hulse, which led to Robbie Blake equalising from the resulting penalty.

With Preston North End not playing, Cardiff made up ground and are now just three points away from a play-off place. The 4/5 Bluebirds beat Hull 1-0 thanks to Cameron Jerome's goal after 22 minutes.

Wolves also remain in the play-off hunt after a narrow 1-0 win against Ipswich. Castro Sito felled Jeremie Aliadiere in the box 16 minutes from time and Kenny Miller dispatched the penalty for 11/10 Wolves.

Millwall striker Ben May struck an 89th minute equaliser to earn his side a crucial point against Crystal Palace. Ben Watson looked set to give the Eagles a routine win at 11/10 with his goal after 67 minutes only for May to snatch the relegation strugglers a point at the death.

5 Benefits of Joining Network Marketing Businesses

Part of growing your business is to recruit more members. This allows you to increase your income and enjoy your life to the fullest. To get new recruits, you must find out what they want out of the business. The following are just 5 benefits of joining network marketing businesses that you can discuss with them.

Freedom: The main benefit of joining network marketing businesses is that it allows you more personal freedom. You get to decide what you want to do and just how far you take your business. If you want to take the day off to go to your child's soccer game, there is no one there to stop you. In other words, you get to decide what is most important.

Spend More Time Doing What You Want: Instead of spending an hour or more each day commuting to work, you get to spend more time doing what you want. You get to spend more time with your family and friends. Working for someone else does not allow you as much time to do the things you enjoy doing. When you work for someone else, you make a time commitment to them and it must be fulfilled or you do not get paid.

Be Your Own Boss: One of the best things about joining network marketing businesses is that you get to be your own boss. You will make all of the choices in your business and no one will be looking over your shoulder to make sure it is done. While this can add another type of stress to your life, you will find it is much more enjoyable than to live by someone else's rules.

Work Wherever You Want: Want to take an unexpected week off from work to go fishing with your buddies or to a spa with your friends? Do it. You do not have to put in a vacation request form a month in advance. You can work whenever you want to and if you want two weeks off, it is your choice.

Flexibility of Hours: You also will find you have no set hours when you work in this business. You can get up in the morning, work a few hours, take the rest of the day off, and put in a few more hours at night. You have a flexibility that no one else has and if you choose to work at home, you can do this or go to the local cybercafe cafe to get some work done. Either way, you get to decide what hours you choose to work.

Writing - Where Do I Find the Time?

Wanting to be a writer may be an easy choice for you. Perhaps you've even got a few ideas at the ready. Where things get sticky is finding the time to write, and more importantly, organizing your time to write.

For just as it is easy to declare your writing want, it is easy to procrastinate on the actual writing: 'I'll write tomorrow, this week is too busy, I'll have more time on the weekend.' Procrastination is a very easy trap to fall into.

What can you do to make sure your writing happens, and that you're happy with how you spend your writing time?

Make A Schedule.
If you have to schedule your life why wouldn't you have to schedule your writing? Make an appointment with yourself to sit down and write. This may help if you have a number of family and work commitments as well - make writing another commitment. Give your writing as much weight as soccer practice or a meeting.

Make It Doable.
If your life is busy and you're always on the run, don't schedule a five hour writing session. It won't happen and you'll feel bad and the page will remain empty. Schedule a time slot you know you can accomplish. If it's five minutes, so what? Make it happen. The consistency of writing on a regular basis is so much more valuable to moving a project forward than a power session once in a while.

Make It Vocal.
If you're having trouble committing to your writing get some help. There is this notion that writing is a solitary craft, but there's no reason it has to be your burden alone. Don't keep writing a secret. Tell everyone and anyone. Tell them to ask about your writing, and more specifically when you're doing it. Speak out about your writing: 'I can't go out to lunch, I'm writing then.' Make your writing more than a secret activity, and you may be amazed at how much you can accomplish. Just don't involve those who you know will talk you out of writing!

Make A List.
Sometimes the worst aspect of organizing time to write is not knowing how to move forward. You're not sure where to go at the beginning of each session and you're so worried about wasting time that it becomes stressful.

To that end, make a list at the end of each session of what you'd like to accomplish during your next session. Your list may be quite short: one writing exercise (which you've determined beforehand) and one new paragraph. The length of the list doesn't matter. Never think of yourself as less of a writer simply because you write less than another writer. Focus on your own process and progress. Focus on being a consistent writer. If you change your list, that's fine. If you disregard your list completely that's fine too. The point is that you have a starting place and a reason to get down to writing right away.

Make Your Day Longer.
A common complaint is that there is no time in the day to write. You have a choice: make time or don't write. Simple as that. You have to decide how important writing is to you, you have to make the decision to commit. Wake up half a hour earlier or go to be a half an hour later and use that time to write. Use half of your lunch hour at work to write.

There may be so many hours in a day. But with the right organizational tools, anything is possible in that day. Writing is possible no matter what your time looks like.

Soccer Nets And Fundamentals

Without soccer nets a goal would just be a rectangular frame with a goalie standing inside it, and nothing else. Balls would fly through and keep on going, so you can see how important a soccer net actually is!

So where do you start when you are buying one? First you need to know where your soccer nets are going to be placed, and how it will be used. Maybe you are planning to construct a goal in your backyard for practice now and then. Or perhaps you are in charge of a field for school games. The type of usage your net will be experiencing can direct you to different options.

If you have a backyard soccer area you can find soccer nets on the cheaper side as you will not be using them with the same type of force as you would for school games. The majority of nets are made with twisted polyethylene material, which is very durable. Some are 2mm, some are 4mm. For younger kids you would use 2mm, however it is not as strong as 4mm and might be apt to break more easily with older children.

For school and league soccer you want to make sure that not only do you have a stronger 4mm soccer, you should also be sure you have back up nets. Every now and then during a fast play some bodies as well as the ball will make their way into the goal area and can cause the net to become damaged or pulled. For this reason you should be prepared with a replacement.

There is one note of precaution to be offered. When working with soccer nets be sure of your footing, you do not want to get your feet tangled up and find yourself tipping over! It has happened to me, and I am sure it happens to everyone at some point. Trust me; it can be a little embarrassing! So keep that in mind as you are hooking up and sorting out your net.

This article was meant to provide you with some basic knowledge on soccer nets. While there are some relatively cheap options there are also nets that can cost you much more. As long as you are aware of how the soccer nets you choose will be used you will be show to make the right choice. Good luck, and have fun!

Dry Clean Safe

Dry cleaning is a way to clean fabric by using different liquid-based solutions to remove soils and stains. Dry cleaning is renowned for ridding delicate fabrics of stubborn stains like grease and red wine without affecting the fabrics quality (i.e. there won't be any shrinking). Most fabrics are dry clean safe, and in today's day-and-age, study after study has looked to make sure the chemicals and processes of dry cleaning are safe for the general public and for their communities.

When you drop your clothing off at the dry cleaners, it does through a number of stages. First off, the clothing will be tagged and inspected. This is a time where labels or tags are attached to clothing so its not lost. It is during this stage that clothing is examined for unfinished hems, missing buttons, rips, etc. This way, the cleaners know what they need to clean and what was there before the cleaning (i.e. so theyre not blamed for it when the clothing is returned).

The next step of the dry cleaning process is the pre-treatment phase. This is where staff members look for stains on your garments and treats them with chemicals to make removal easier. Following this, the clothes are placed in a machine and cleaned again with more chemicals. Dry clean safe cleaning machines can typically hold 20-100 pounds of fabric and comprised of a rotating steel basket filled with motors, pumps, and other equipment suited to cleaning garments. This stage is the actual dry cleaning of the garments.

The final stage is post-spotting, and it revolves around inspection the clothes one last time for stains, just in case something slipped through the cracks. The post-spotting process uses chemicals, steam, water, air, and a vacuum to ensure your clothing is fully cleaned.

When the clothing is completely cleaned and passes inspection, it is then pressed, folded, and packaged for pick-up. Some dry cleaners take extra care to iron and repair clothing if there are flaws while others do the minimum. The basic finishing process includes: applying steam (i.e. softening the fabric), quickly drying it to re-shape the garment, removing moisture with a vacuum, and applying pressure (i.e. ironing) to rid the garment of any minor wrinkles.

Some dry cleaners offer an extra pressing and ironing, starch included, if you pay a bit extra for the service. Its important to build a relationship with the company you use: if you frequent them a lot, they'll remember you and it will ensure your clothing will be returned dry clean safe.

Before using or opening a dry cleaning franchise, consider the kinds of customers you'll deal with: are you located in a city full of lawyers needing their suits pressed or are you serving soccer moms who need their dry clean only sweaters freshened up before the winter? Any business should be specialized according to its clientele, and a dry cleaning franchise is no different.

Sports Cleats - Studs Vs Spikes

Cleats are one of mankind's more clever inventions, I believe. People were playing games that caused them to skid around and lose their footing. Therefore, someone had the bright idea to attach little studs to the bottom of their shoes, thereby providing instant traction. Behold the birth of the cleats. This kind of shoe has been in existence since at least the 16th century, at which time King Henry VIII of England is known to have ordered a pair to be used while playing football (or soccer, as it would be called in the United States). However, considering their usefulness, it is easily conceivable cleats have been around for much longer. Regardless of their history, modern cleats have become an indispensable part of numerous uniforms in modern sports.

While sports usually have cleats specifically designed to deal with certain challenges, most cleats fall into two basic categories: those with larger, blunt studs on the bottom and those with smaller, sharp spikes. Those shoes in the first category are usually used in soccer, American football and other sports that require playing in dirt, grass and often mud. Those shoes in the second category are most often used for track and field and baseball. In both cases, however, the end goal is the same: to allow the wearer better in the interest of improving speed and agility.

Cleats with blunt studs are made by a wide variety of manufacturers, including big sportswear names like Adidas, Nike and Reebok. These shoes tend to be sturdier and heavier than their spiked cousins, as the sports they serve are often rougher and involve physical contact. The studs always exist on the ball and heel of the shoe, although they can sometimes cover the entire sole. The primary purpose of such footwear is to allow the wearer to change direction rapidly without slipping. Soccer, American football and rugby all require such zigzagging movements, and cleats can mean the difference between a successful play and a mouth full of mud.

Cleats with spikes are essentially lightweight shoes with spikes attached to the bottom, either screwed into the sole or on a spike plate. The spikes are placed at the front of the shoe's sole and can number anywhere from three to a dozen. Although there are usually no spikes on the heels, those cleats specifically intended for high jumping and javelin throwing sometimes have them there. Spikes can vary in length from 3/16 inches to 1/2 an inch, but most are somewhere around 1/4 inches. Like blunt cleats, spike cleats are manufactured by an array of companies, including those mentioned above.

Although the shape of the blunt stud is fairly standardized, there is some variation in spike shape. Spikes come in three styles: pyramids, needles and compression tiers. The first are conical spikes that tapers to sharp points. Needles also have sharp points, but their cones are of a thinner diameter. Finally, compression tiers are in the shape of a terraced cone with a flat end. The motivating difference behind the styles is that while pyramids and needles are designed to penetrate the surface of a traditional track, compression tiers are meant to be used on synthetic tracks. Rather than penetrating the surface, these flat-ended spikes compress the track's surface and use the resulting reaction force to increase the runner's speed.

Solo Professional Working From Home - What's Great About It, Reason #7 - More Personal Time

If you want to "follow your bliss" to work at what you love so that you love your work, then doing it from home will sweeten the deal. Not the least because of the control you have over your personal time, resulting in more time for friends, family and fun.

There are so many benefits to running a business from your home. I've identified "eight great traits of being a home-based solopreneur" that I'm taking turns going into detail on:

1. Freedom

2. Flexibility

3. Lots of Variety

4. Less Stress

5. Lower Expenses

6. Tax Advantages

7. More Control over Personal Time

8. Relaxed Dress Code!

The focus of this article is on trait #7 - MORE PERSONAL TIME.

Because being your own boss means you can control your own schedule, you can create and manage more personal time. The result is being able to spend more quality time with those who are important to you. Family, friends and fun can be worked into your life in a way that's not stressful.

When you work for someone else, if they say you stay late to get a project done, then you may miss tucking your kid in. If you're told you have to travel to a distant client during a time that just happens to coincide with your spouse's birthday, then you'll have to figure out how to celebrate later. Your lunches, maybe breakfasts, and even dinners may be about meetings, not friend or family time. You may miss your kid's school play or softball game because of a work crunch. A serious corporate career can definitely put a damper on your personal time.

But being your own boss, working from your home space, can free you to create the time you want for the things you want. If you're a parent, you can see the kids off to school in the morning without the mad rush that requires you to get both them and you ready to leave the house. If you want, you can be home when they return from school. It's easier to plan and prepare dinner, and therefore you can enjoy a more leisurely meal with your family. If someone is sick, it's easier to leave your home's desk than one in someone else's office to care for them or run them to the doctor. If a friend needs to talk, you can lend an ear during the middle of the day. You can take your elderly mother to her doctor appointment in the morning or make afternoon visiting hours for you ailing grandfather. If you want to coach your kid's soccer team or be a scout master, you can make the schedule work for you. You can linger over a long lunch with a friend. You can work in morning tennis or afternoon golf.

You can much more easily integrate your personal and professional life when you're on your own.

Soccer Coaching - 6 Tips for Motivating Young Players and Building Team Spirit

This article lists 6 tips that soccer coaches can use to motivate players and build team spirit. It is written for soccer, but the ideas apply to other sports.

1. Praise your players at the time they do something you want to encourage (this means praising them while on the field by getting their attention and giving a Thumbs Up, Clapping and smiling at them or yelling "Way to Go" or something similar).

2. Praise SPECIFIC actions so they know what the praise is for.

3. At half time call all your players together and give each one a word of encouragement. If they have done something good say something specific to encourage that behavior, such as "Kate, you are really hustling". If there is something they need to work on say something encouraging like "Sam, I know you can be a great Goalie".

4. Use Soccer Patches to motivate and reward hustle, bravery, skills, teamwork, assists, listening to the coach and anything you want to encourage. At the end of the game, call your players together around you and encourage the parents to watch while you have a Patch Ceremony.

5. Select a Team Nickname and a team cheer like "Play Hard and Have Fun" or "1-2-3 Go Team". Have them all get together in a circle on the field just before the game and just before the second half starts. Show them how to get in a circle and put their arms on each other's shoulders to do the cheer OR how to stand in a circle and all touch hands.

6. After every goal, have the entire team, including the Goalie, come together in a circle and do the Team Cheer. (The Brazilian National Team does this). This makes it clear that scoring a goal is a TEAM effort.

No More Mister Nice Guy

After several requests I have opted to tackle the nice guy conundrum. Although women insist they are looking for a nice guy they tend to gravitate toward assholes. Today I will discuss reasons why as well as make recommendations as to how you should adjust the personality you project when approaching women.

Nice Guys

When you are nice to a woman you've just met the first thought in her head is often: "Why is this guy being so nice to me?" The question really isn't as odd as it sounds but you have to understand the interpretation. Think about it again. Why would you be so kind to someone you just met? You don't know them and they don't know you. There is no previous bond or history. You are a complete stranger to this person. So being a nice guy leads many women to believe that you must obviously want something from them. Based on my previous post we all know that projecting those wants carry unfavorable results. Approaching this way also suggests that you are perhaps rather needy and/or weak; someone desperate for friends and affection.

Social Shield

My recommendation for you guys out there is to not stop being a good guy altogether (I mean after all that trait will often lead you to strengthening potential relationships in the long term) so therefore I suggest you implement a shield. A social shield is a barrier an individual has to work through in order to get to who you are at the core. How do we activate this social shield? The easiest/simplest way to display your shield is by pointing out minor faults and tease people for them. Lets look at the example below.

Example

You just met a woman who has clearly spent a good deal of time doing her hair. Its fall and somewhere between her leaving her apartment and arriving at the bar you're at a leaf happened to fall into her hair. You notice this oddity, and you decide to put the social shield in action. (Now understand people have different personalities and styles to fit their core. Lets use something generic that acts almost as a one size fits all comment) You tap the girl on the shoulder lightly. She looks at you and asks "What do you want?" You take the leaf from her hair and with a teasing smile say "Classy."

Notes: Understand this is a bloated example, but think about simple things to challenge a woman on like hairstyle, clothing preference, accent, posture, type of drink, etc. etc. Just remember that criticizing other will lead them to criticize you so make sure you are comfortable with laughing at yourself and your faults as well as having something else to talk about on hand if the woman you're talking to gives you a goofy smile and a blank stare.

Conclusion

Some people oppose the idea as they claim that it's being fake to others and even to yourself as an individual. My response to this has been a rather simple analogy and one I will most likely refer to as I present future topics. This analogy is Sports. The truth of the matter is that socializing is a sport much like football, baseball or soccer. There are strategies and techniques teammates have to use on the opposing team to win a game. Consider the Social shield as the stiff arm of football. Hope this is helpful, have fun with this.

Interview With Peter Lewis, Author of "Treehouse Chronicles"

Reader Views is happy to have with us, Peter Lewis, author of "Treehouse Chronicles." Welcome Peter!

Irene: Peter, you have a book here that is very unlike other books. Tell us a little more about it.

Peter: "Treehouse Chronicles" is a story about people, the joys of working together, and the wonder of the natural world, all wrapped around a dream shared by kids of all ages--the creation of an enormous treehouse filled with odd contraptions, secret locks, furniture made from trees, and a drawbridge activated by gravity and falling boulders. It's a hardcover, large format book full of photographs, sketches, and watercolors. But it's more than just big and pretty: it has a wonderful message - it's a coffee-table book with heart.

It's the story of what happens when big people decide to be kids again and they have tools and lumber. I call the book my "master's thesis on irony" because it explores the ups and downs (pun intended) of living a dream which on some days seemed like the greatest adventure in the world, and on other days seemed like the biggest mistake I ever made. I kept a journal during the construction and the 1400 pages that I amassed form the heart of the book: from day 1, when inspiration struck, to day 1028, when I splashed the last bit of shellac on the last stair tread. It's the story of an ordinary man who goes on a great journey without ever leaving his back yard.

Irene: What inspired you to publish this book?

Peter: I've written a bunch of books and this was my first book of whimsy (and it won't be the last). I published this book because people need to know that childhood never really has to end, and that being a grownup isn't just about going to meetings and paying bills and shuttling kids to soccer practice and answering e-mails. Although chronologically I was in my 40s when I built the treehouse, the whole time I felt like I was about twelve--and I had the time of my life.

Irene: Tell us about yourself and how "Treehouse Chronicles" reflects on your own life.

Peter: I grew up in a family where imagination, creativity, and industry were highly prized. My parents didn't encourage me to think outside the box--they told me they weren't sure there was a box. (My father, who is 80, builds boats.) This idea of pushing, learning, and experimenting, has stuck with me my entire life. But, we weren't just idle dreamers--there was a practical side. When I was little, my mom said to me, "Dreams need feet, Peter. They're no good stuck between your ears." She meant that the "doing" part of dreaming was even more important than the "thinking" part--she (and my dad, too) wanted results. (It was okay if the dream was silly--as long as you got it done.)

Irene: You were very fortunate to have parents did were so upbeat. They seemed to be ahead of their time when you were growing up. Did you appreciate their encouragement when you were growing up?

Peter: In most ways my parents, and my early years, were fairly conventional: two parents, two kids, dog, house in the suburbs (fortunately surrounded by forests and swamps). My dad was a mechanical engineer; my mom was mostly home, but worked a little. Typical for the 1960's. My parents were different--although I'm not sure "ahead of their time" describes them. I certainly appreciated the freedom they gave me to get a feel for the creative life. We had rules, to be sure, but my parents weren't afraid of saying "yes," whenever I wanted to try something. They let me keep snakes in my room (and in my pockets); I was allowed to climb on the roof (as well as trees) starting when I was about six; tools and lumber were everywhere for me to experiment with; playing in the swamp behind the house was considered normal. My parents told me I could do anything. I believed them.

Irene: Do you have children? If so, do you give the same encouragement your parents gave you?

Peter: I have two children. And no, I don't give them the same encouragement my parents gave me--I give them more. My typical response to "Daddy, can I?" is, "YES!" I only say no if something is truly dangerous or unethical or would hurt someone else. The pat answer that most parents give their kids is "no." They often do this because "yes" would inconvenience them or make them look odd to their friends and neighbors (or both). I think that's sad. Lest you think our home is chaotic, let me reassure you that it is not. Both my kids are respectful, studious, well behaved, and motivated to succeed in life. They have been encouraged to learn the value of initiative and hard work and they know where life's real boundaries lie.

My son is a junior at a prestigious engineering school and will likely go on to get his master's degree in nuclear engineering (he wants to work in the field of marine architecture). He is my best friend and when I get older I want to be just like him. My daughter is tall and lovely, reads several books a week, and is about to help me renovate our barn just in time for her new horse. She's only 13 so she's not sure what she wants to be when she gets older (notice I didn't say "when she grows up"), but she's already talking about college. (By the way, both kids are home schooled--all the credit goes to my wife, Karen.) Karen is the rock in the family. She's German, and very pragmatic. Without her we'd be completely out of control. She doesn't climb trees or keep snakes in her pockets, but she does cheer us on. Occasionally she says "no" and it's always a good thing when she does (it saves us trips to the emergency room). She's wonderful and the love of my life.

Irene: T.B.R. Walsh is the illustrator. Tell us a little about Mr. Walsh and how he became part of your book.

Peter: Ted is my friend, business partner, and a craftsman and artist. He helped conceive of and build the treehouse, and his artistic talent helped make the book truly special. He grew up in northern Massachusetts and on the Maine coast and his artistic bent showed up early. Before he turned four, he drew a three-dimensional cow.

"There's something wrong with this kid," his dad said. "We've got to get him tested."

He has studied the history of art in New England and Italy, dabbled in experimental archeology and comparative ancient languages, once built a Celtic wheelhouse, and restored a 37-foot wooden sloop (which he sails on the coast of Maine). After college he taught art history, history, and architecture design at a private secondary school for nine years where he slowly lost his mind. He taught wilderness and leadership skills at a prestigious wilderness medicine school in New Hampshire for many years, and lives in a cottage in the woods with a wolf.

Irene: When you were trekking with your camera and journal, were you aware at that time your findings will end up in a book?

Peter: Very early on, as I was tinkering with design ideas for the treehouse, it occurred to me that this was going to be a series of mishaps that many people would find interesting--I can't imagine not deciding to do the book. I'm always looking for the extraordinary in ordinary things, so writing a book about my little adventure hanging a cottage in the sky was inevitable.

Irene: Much of your book is about nature. From this, I gather that you bond with nature and the creatures in it. Tell us about your experiences.

Peter: Again, this stems from the early years of my childhood. I grew up in the woods, spent much of my free time exploring the local hills and swamps, and frequently snuck wild things into my room (logs full of ants, snakes, big rocks, bird's nests, bee's nests, turtles, leaves, live squirrels, etc.) My parents encouraged all this (except for the ants, which my mom had to vacuum up). We spent summers deep in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York on a lake where we had to take a boat to get to our camp. I thought it was paradise and I spent much of my time fishing or knee-deep in muck bonding with frogs. I went on to get a degree in forestry, and though I never worked in that industry, my love for wild places has never waned, (e.g. I spent twenty years on-and-off as a professional mountain guide). I feel most at home in the forests and mountains and streams.

Irene: The book is about fulfilling a dream. In reality, whose dream is this?

Peter: It's certainly my dream--at least in the sense that I was the guy who first had the nutty idea. But, there were many conspirators, and, if this project was anything, it was a magnet for people who don't take life too seriously (my father and my son in particular). I would have friends call me up and say things like, "Hey, I'm not busy on Saturday, can I come over and help you lug heavy timbers up a ladder? Please?" So, at least in a sense, this dream of mine was contagious and when it was over there were dozens of people whose lives had somehow been enriched by it. And perhaps it wasn't even the concrete dream itself--the indisputable fact that we were hanging a three-ton house in the sky--but rather the idea that this sort of thing was not only possible, but should be encouraged. I've had many readers tell me that this book has inspired them to throw convention to the wind and follow their own dream. I love the way that makes me feel.

Irene: As humans, one of our greatest needs is to belong - be needed. You filled that need for your friends. Do you believe that your dream became your friends' reality?

Peter: I hope not. I hope this dream we all shared will motivate my friends to go out and do their own great (if offbeat) things. And I hope they invite me over when they need help.

Irene: There is a deep message in "Treehouse Chronicles." Please tell us what it is that you hope your readers will "get"?

Peter: I've probably already answered this:

o Dreams need feet. They're no good stuck between your ears.

o Childhood never really has to end.

o Don't take life too seriously (and don't worry if people think you're a nut).

o The natural world is a wonderful place; spend more time there.

o Creativity and hard work have their own rewards.

o You don't have to travel to some far-flung corner of the world to have an adventure--I had my greatest adventure in my own back yard.

Irene: Why this message, and not some other message, like hiking is fun.

Peter: Because this message (described in the bullet points above) can be applied to anybody, anytime, anywhere, doing anything. It is not bound by social status, or financial security, or cultural convention, and is not limited to any one activity.

P.S. I'm not sure hiking is fun; my knees hurt (unless I'm running).

Irene: Explain to us about the squirrel - the squirrel with an attitude.

Peter: Vinny (Vincent R. Thugrat) is a red squirrel whose great grandfather came over on the boat from the Old Country. He is the principle antagonist in the book and my archenemy. He owns the tree (and, he thinks, the entire forest), and sees me as both a trespasser and a vandal. He is loud, obnoxious, and leaves cigarette butts and turds everywhere. He chews on woodwork, steals insulation, parties until the wee hours of the morning, and is just an all-around grouch. We constantly bicker and he always wins because he's louder. I've often thought of killing him, but he has bigger, more thuggish cousins (all named Vinny) who swing baseball bats.

Irene: Does Vinny's character resemble anyone you know?

Peter: Danny DeVitto in the sitcom Taxi.

Irene: What was your purpose of including the squirrel?

Peter: I had no choice. He threatened my family. Besides, he offers a kind of Mob-style comic relief.

Irene: It sounds like Vinny has a deeper message than just being a nuisance. What message does he give?

Peter: Don't give Vinny too much credit. He's just a squirrel (and not an overly bright one at that). He's made up of equal parts angst, opportunism, and territorial imperative. He gets far more press than he deserves. Vinny does not represent some deep and repressed feelings of anger or inadequacy that I have. He's just a common thug and we play him up in the book and in interviews because he makes people laugh.

Irene: Thank you Peter. I can't help but smile thinking of how much fun you had writing this book. And, needless to say, your readers will get a charge out of it too. Is there anything else that you would like your readers to know about your or your book?

Peter: Making the book was as fun and creative as making the building--and it was inside work with no heavy lifting.

Tips for Dealing With ADHD in Children: Important Facts You Need To Know

Dealing with ADHD in children is not easy. It can make you angry, frustrated and exhausted. Here are some helpful tips for parents.

First of all, you need to take care of yourself. If you are not in the best of health, you will be more emotional and you won't have the energy it takes to keep up with your child. Taking care of your health means eating right, exercising regularly, sleeping well and taking time to de-stress.

A healthy diet is important for you and your child. Try to get the junk food out of the house. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Try to get a couple of servings of fatty fish like tuna or salmon every week. Not only is fish healthy, it is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are sometimes beneficial for kids with attention deficit disorders.

Your child needs lots of physical activity to burn off steam and reduce hyperactivity. It will also help both of you sleep well if you get lots of exercise. Go for a brisk walk in the morning. Run around the yard in the afternoon before it's time for homework.

If your child is old enough, consider a sport like basketball or soccer, but not softball. There is too much down time, which is not helpful when dealing with children with ADHD.

Tae kwon do and other martial arts are sometimes good choices, as long as the child enjoys the training. You may be able to take a yoga class at the same time and yoga helps reduce stress.

Sleeping well can be hard both for parents and for hyperactive kids. Early, regular bedtimes along with following a well-planned routine on a daily basis will help.

Take at least an hour before bedtime to turn off the TV and find a quiet activity. Coloring or reading books is a good choice. You can color, too. It's very relaxing and being relaxed is important for dealing with children with ADHD.

It helps to remember that your child is usually not doing things to annoy you on purpose. Having an attention deficit disorder can be just as frustrating, exhausting and irritating as trying to deal with someone who has one.

Spend 10 or 15 minutes cuddling with your child before his or her bedtime. This is valuable quality time that helps the two of you reconnect, especially after an argument during the day.

Help is available for dealing with ADHD in children. You can join a support group or simply talk to an understanding friend. Take advantage of any help that's available. It will make both of you happier and healthier.

Short Biography of Famous Soccer Player - Gianluigi Buffon

Gianluigi Buffon was born 28 January 1978 in Carrara. He is an Italian FIFA World Cup-winning goalkeeper who participates for Serie A club Juventus and the Italian national team. He is extensively regarded by fans and experts as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time.

In 1995 he began his career with Parma. In 2003, Bufon won the Most Valuable Player and Best Goalkeeper awards at the UEFA European Football Awards. In March 2004 He was named by Pele as one of the top 125 greatest living footballers.

When Juventus paid Parma in excess of £30million for his signature in the summer of 2001, Gianluigi Buffon became the world's most expensive goalkeeper. Typically, it's said that a tall goalkeeper will have softer reflexes, though making up for them through sheer size, while a shorter goalkeeper will be more agile. If there was ever an exemption to reinforce the rule, Gianluigi Buffon holds copyright for it.

Juventus is more than a soccer club, it's a guarantee of excellence for the players employs. It was the case for Buffon, who kept on having eminent feats for the new club but all at once, he won the fight with Toldo for the place in Italy's goal as well. In view of the fact that, he has been a constant alternative for his national squad and his club and demonstrated what Juventus fans welcomed as honor and loyalty when he didn't go away from the club following the Calciopoli scandal in 2006, when his squad was downgraded to the second division.

When he was only 19 years old Buffon was honored his first cap for Italy, as an injury replacement for Gianluca Pagliuca during a 1998 FIFA World Cup play-off against Russia. He was called up for the 1998 World Cup finals, but did not play a single game as Pagliuca remained first choice. He was a member of the Italy team at the 1996 Summer Olympics, the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004.

Players Out

Leon Cort (Crystal Palace - £1,250,000), Kevin Ellison (Tranmere Rovers - Undisclosed), Robbie Stockdale (Tranmere Rovers - Free), Scott Wiseman (Rotherham United - Loan).

Hull City survived their first season in the Championship and will look to improve on last season's eighteenth placed finish under new manager Phil Parkinson. Former employers Colchester United were not keen on him leaving following their own promotion to the division and even gained a temporary High Court injunction preventing him from leaving the club. However, the relented when Hull paid £400,000 compensation and accepted Parkinson's resignation.

Parkinson will be without star defender Leon Cort who joined Crystal Palace for £1.25 million but has been busy in the transfer market strengthening the squad. Cort's replacement is Brentford's Michael Turner who joined in a £350,000 transfer. Turner began his career at Charlton Athletic before joining the Bees following a loan spell in 2004. He made 94 appearances and scored three goals during his 18 months at Griffin Park.

Taylor has also signed another defender in Welsh international Sam Ricketts from Swansea for £300,000. Play off losers Swansea were keen on keeping Ricketts, but Hull's bid triggered a clause in his contract and the player was keen to move on. Ricketts joined Swansea from non league Telford in 2004 and was name in the League Two team of last season.

Tottenham Hotspur's Dean Marney bolsters the midfield following his signing for an undisclosed fee. The 22 year old decided to join the Kingston Communications Stadium ahead of several other clubs in the Championship.

Hull have been boosted by the news that another former Tottenham player, Nick Barmby, has been given the go ahead to start pre-season training with the rest of the squad after he missed a large part of last season due to an injured hamstring.

Verdict

Hull survived the drop with 10 points to spare last season and this campaign is going to be just as tough. In Phil Parkinson, they have a manager who is able to get the best out of unfancied teams and they should do enough to preserve their Championship status next season.

Drug Addiction Steals The Life Of A Young Man, The Second Chance Program Gives Him His Life Back

Senior year of high school Julio started using inhalants. He was bored. A friend offered him gold spray paint. He inhaled, and got a buzz. He liked it. Thus began his recreational use of inhalants. He had good grades in school. And he was doing what he loved, he had always wanted to play soccer, and he was good; being the #6 leading scorer his junior year, and All State. And he was maintaining a 3.0 grade point average.

He arrived at college, with a full financial aid scholarship. He needed this. He was being raised by his father's parents, as his dad was doing time for accidentally shooting his mother when Julio was 3 or 4. His inhalant usage manifested into an addiction. Julio threw it all away. He flunked out of college, and was kicked out of school, losing all his financial aid.

By the time he was 30, Julio had been arrested 15 or 20 times, he has lost count. This last time he was given an offer to try a new type of incarceration. A place where the inmates are called students and even though it's a fully secure facility, he finds he feels at home there.

The Second Chance Center is a secure long-term residential rehab and transition program providing an alternative for the judiciary to traditional sentencing to jails and prisons, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The program was started by Rick Pendery, a drug rehab veteran, who had piloted a similar program in two Mexican prisons for over five years. "The intent of the program is to restore personal integrity and self-esteem in the inmates, and stem the rising rate of recidivism," explained the CEO of the center, Rick Pendery.

"After arriving at Second Chance on September 7th of 2006," Julio explains, "I tried to maintain optimism about being able to successfully function in a sober manner. But with so many failed attempts in the 30 years of my life haunting my memory, my excitement level was low. All at once I noticed the straightforward attitude of the staff and their warm confident receiving of myself that screamed nothing but success. I perceived a vibration that no matter what has occurred in the past or where I'd failed at in life, if I would just allow myself this opportunity, things would be different, and I would not fail!"

"It's been a step by step process in getting to where I am now from where I was at the beginning." Julio continues. "At times, the only assurance I had that I was still making progress and being productive was by taking my supervisors' word that I would get through it. It's never been an easy program to follow. The idea is simple. But actually doing it is not at all a piece if cake. It takes a lot of hard work and it's this hard effort made which requires sincere dedication and discipline."

A unique prison rehabilitation model inside the criminal justice system, The Second Chance Program specifically addresses common deficits found in offenders with substance abuse histories, such as cognitive behavioral skills, life skills, and the development of moral values and restoration of self-esteem, which have been found to have a positive impact on the development of pro-social behaviors and reduced recidivism. Delivered in a secure setting, this six to eight-month program also offers a long-range nutritional and sauna based detoxification program which uses no alternate drugs.

"As I continue to accomplish each step, I become more motivated to continue accomplishing what I set out to do.", Julio says, "I am not willing to give up in exchange for the past failures or lifestyles. I am just thankful to my lord for his hand of mercy extending through the concept of this program, its staff and my fellow students to support and encourage my continued success here in the program as well as outside of the program in life. Its an ongoing success story that continues today."

Julio also said, "I had not encountered relief from the whirlwind of recidivism within our justice system until Second Chance. I am no longer a part of it's vicious cycle but have now become an entity and future pillar in our communities and state willing to assist others in breaking that cycle. My new attitude, outlook on life and actions give credibility to the scripture 'You can tell a tree by the fruits it produces'. It is through the personally observable transformed life that will encourage others to seek out the same results seen in us. Because of the opportunity presented to me by the Second Chance Program to mature mentally, physically and spiritually as well as the sincere urging and encouragement to do so, we now embraced and continue to run with the Second Chance of having granted myself a Stay of Execution from my own, Self Imposed Death Sentence that I had once voluntarily handed down to myself because of my choice to use drugs."

Teach Your Players to Have Class

In a previous article, I talked about the importance of identifying your "Coaching Philosophy." When considering your own philosophy or set of values, did you contemplate good sportsmanship? Have you thought of instilling in your team the concept of playing, winning and losing with class? I present these questions because most recreational coaches at one time or another have been exposed to, victim of, or participant in an act of poor sportsmanship.

In the book The Soccer Coaching Bible, I recently read Chapter 2 and it talks about "Competing with Class." The authors promote the concept that teaching and maintaining class is more important than winning. If you think about it logically, it makes good sense. Because the big picture is that we are developing individuals first, soccer players and athletes second. It can be argued that coaches who reflect good sportsmanship and class produce higher quality people.

And don't forget about your fans-parents and family members. Most recreational soccer programs now have rules that penalize-yellow or red cards--the coach for unsavory spectator behavior. As coaches we have personal relationships with most of our parents. Communicate clearly to them what is expected or unacceptable spectator behavior towards other teams, officials and fans. This should be done at the beginning of the season and periodically during practice during the season.

In the end, coaches establish the true measure for a team's standard of conduct. Players and most parents will follow coaches' examples and guidelines. The bottom line for teaching your players to have class, as outline by the authors of The Soccer Coaching Bible [http://www.esoccergear.com/soccer-drills-and-skills/], is to follow the golden rule: "Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you. Second, do the right thing, in the right way, at the right time, for the right reason."

Flicks For Sports Fans - Movies About Athletics Worth Watching

While getting to watch a favorite team triumph on game day is always appreciated, sometimes there simply isn't anything on worth watching. And during these lulls in activity, there often needs to be a different option available, lest those fans at home who are missing out on the action start reliving past triumphs and failures with the various ESPN Classic options out there. But what's an aficionado of the game to do when there is only curling on television? The answer is simpler than some might think: turn to the world of movies.

With so many different channels out there on satellite tv offering up thousands of different movies at any given moment, it's no surprise that at least a few dozen of the picks might revolve around the world of athletes and their favorite sports. Whether it happens to be a biopic based on a South American soccer star or a fictional account of one southern football team's rise to triumph despite some challenges stacked against them, the world of sports cinema is varied and exciting. And when truly great sports films are made, sometimes things are done so well that it feels just as exciting as game day itself.

Whether focusing on an obscure sport that might not make as much sense or reliving a real-life victory in fictionalized form, here are some fantastic movies about athletics for those times when the game is not yet on.

The Replacements. Keanu Reeves leads up a squad of has-been football players who are a bit more rough and tumble. Think of it as a "Bad News Bears" for grown-ups, and set in the early 2000s. While not the best movie made about football ever, the action sequences that involve down-to-the-wire moments on the field get the adrenaline of sports fans going just like a real game would.

Jerry Maguire. Less about the action on the field and more about the action in the world of one rogue sports agent, who is trying to keep his clients happy while also making a name for himself. Before their was Ari Gold on "Entourage," the most popular agent onscreen was Tom Cruise in this role, for which was surprisingly suited.

Chariots of Fire. Because not all movies about athletics should be focused on team sports. This ode to running was one of the most popular films of 1981, and managed to win an Oscar for Best Picture. While one particular slow-motion sequence has been parodied again and again, this is still a film well worth watching, and the athletics sequences are as incredible as the rest of the cinematography.

Prefontaine. Adorable actor Jared Leto plays the shaggy-haired track star of the 1970s, who was one of the first to make the sport into a national point of interest. The best kind of biopic, with lots of attention paid to sports sequences, as well as moments of drama outside of the competition.

Teen Wolf. Okay, so this film starring Michael J. Fox is more of a great 1980s comedy than anything else, but the fantastic climactic end scene, which involves teen wolf's ability to bring it on the basketball court, makes it a great pick for those who enjoy their campy 80s flicks with a little bit of athletics on the side.

Design Your Dream Lifestyle Before Starting Your Own Business

A lot of people jump into trying to start a business or make some extra money without thinking of any particular goal besides bringing in some extra cash. They're desperate to make some extra money, because they think a better income is all that's needed to improve their lives.

Don't fall into that trap.

Sure, making more money is great, and there are a lot of ways it can make your life better. You've probably heard the expression that money doesn't buy happiness but the lack of it surely brings unhappiness, and there's a lot of truth to that. But being successful in business is about more than just money. You have to figure out what you want from your business--and your life--before you jump into a new venture.

I'm fortunate enough to make a six-figure income from writing, which is something I've loved doing since grade school, and--even better--most of what I earn comes in the form of a passive income that lands in my bank account whether I'm at the keyboard typing away or if I'm in Hawaii learning how to surf or up at Whistler skiing the slopes. For me, one of the keys to success was to learning to write for myself and keep 100% of the revenue instead of getting paid hourly to write for other people. I've learned one other big lesson along the road to financial independence, and that's what I want to share with you today.

Before you start a business, there's one big question you need to ask:

What do you want your life to look like?

Let's say money isn't an issue. Your new business is a success, and you have plenty. So, close your eyes and imagine what your life would look like.

Are you traveling the world, stopping here and there to check on your business from an Internet café? Are you watching your kids at an after-school soccer game? Are you outside hiking or biking and enjoying a sunny day in the middle of the week? Are you driving a fancy car that you never could have afforded on your old salary?

Before you jump into a business, think about what you want from life. Most people who start businesses just end up making new jobs for themselves. They've traded their old boss for a new one: themselves. And because they don't get to clock out at the end of the day, as they would in a normal job, they end up working harder and longer hours than ever before. They may or may not make any more money than they did before. Even if they make more, they don't have the time to enjoy it. It's no wonder so many businesses don't succeed.

If all you want from life is things, working 12 or more hours a day may be okay, but one thing I've found is that what we really want--far more than we want fancy houses and mansions--is freedom.

We want to be able to set our own hours and take a day off when we feel like it. To my mind, that is a far greater fortune than all the money I've earned or all the money I may earn in the future.

Figure out what you want your life to look like, and then figure out how to build a business that will get you there. If you create the business first, you may be chasing freedom and happiness for the rest of your life.

Natural Gout Treatment - The Rules Of A Gout Diet That Had A Lot Of Success

Natural gout treatment largely involves diet. The most widely touted gout diet for sufferers of "the disease of kings," is the low purine gout diet. The cause of gout theory behind it is that because uric acid is made from purines, and because uric acid is the gout culprit, purine intake from foods and beverages should be restricted.

But some studies have found that a low purine gout diet has no effect on uric acid levels. Most likely one reason is because most uric acid in the body is made in the liver from purine molecules of DNA and RNA, and not from the purines in foods and beverages. Another reason may be that the problem for a gout sufferer is not that he/she is producing too much uric acid but that he/she is not excreting enough.

There is another cause of gout theory, which is that excess uric acid (hyperuricemia) is the result of insulin resistance, the pre type 2 diabetes condition. Insulin resistance in gout has been the subject of many studies. Simply put, insulin resistance is the condition where the cells become more resistant to allowing insulin to deliver glucose (mainly broken down from carbohydrate in foods) to them, for the purpose of energy creation. It's as if the jailer refuses to open the door of the cell. It's one of the causes of excess insulin. Excess insulin has been found in a number of studies to inhibit uric acid excretion as well as causing other problems.

To examine whether a diet could affect the markers that show insulin resistance exists, and
lower uric acid levels, researchers in South Africa put 13 males, all gout sufferers, on a diet governed by three cardinal rules of the Zone diet, the well-known diet book written in the 1990's by Barry Sears PhD.

RULES

Calories were restricted to 1,600 a day: 40% from carbohydrates, 30% from protein and 30% from mono and poly unsaturated fats.

Refined carbohydrate foods were swapped for complex carbohydrate foods. i.e. they ate complex carbohydrates, not refined carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates can be found in foods made from whole grains, (eg. whole grain flours and products made from them), and in many vegetables, low sugar fruits and beans.

Refined and simple carbohydrates are found in foods made from refined grains (for example refined flours which are the basis for pasta, breads, cakes, biscuits (cookies) pies, pastries); white rice; and most cereals. And notably from sugars with the exception of fruit sugar, (fructose) and galactose. Simple carbohydrates include corn and other syrups, table sugar and honey; candies (sweets); processed foods with added sugar; and some fruits and vegetables.

Complex carbohydrates are lower on the Glycemic Index (GI) scale than refined carbohydrates because they have a slower effect on blood glucose, and so the response of insulin to blood glucose is slower and more moderate. Insulin is much more responsive to refined and simple carbohydrates.

There isn't space in this article to explain more about the difference between complex and refined carbohydrates. If you're not sure, the subject is easily researched on the Internet. For example, do an Internet search for "Glycemic Index," or "Glycemic Load."

Fats Saturated fats, which are among the fats found in meat fat, dairy products, beef tallow (beef dripping) and lard, were swapped for monounsaturated fats (e.g. olive oil, canola oil) and polyunsaturated fats, (oils such as corn, sunflower and soybean oils). However, in the study, participants took polyunsaturated fats from fish. They were advised to eat fish at least four times a week during the study, even fish that are high purine such as mackerel.

Meat and Alcohol They also ate meat, no doubt lean meat since mono and polyunsaturated fats were encouraged. (Meat does contain both these fats, as well as saturated fats). Participants' alcohol consumption was moderate, there were no alcohol rules, and it remained the same as usual.

So in this diet there was moderate restriction of calories and carbohydrate, and control over proportional consumption of carbohydrate, protein and of fats. In the Zone diet the number of calories you get from food should be in the proportions of: from carbohydrates (40%), from protein (30%) and from fat (30%). This is one of the principles at the core of the diet.

These proportions, or numbers close to them (getting more or less there is allowed) should be eaten at every meal and snack too. In the study, participants were asked to keep to these proportions at each meal, and they were encouraged to eat 3 to 5 meals and snacks daily, another Zone diet rule.

Anyone going on the Zone diet will have their personal daily carbohydrate, protein, and fat requirement. How to discover it is explained in the Zone diet book. The amount of protein you can eat determines the amounts of carbohydrates and unsaturated fats, in the 4:3:3 proportions, you can eat. Why the 4:3:3 rule is important is also explained in the book. If you know about soccer, you can think of the 4:3:3 rule as the commonly used soccer team formation.

Or, another way of putting it, is to say that calories from protein are 0.75 (75%) of calories from carbohydrate and calories from fat are in the same proportion as calories from protein. Getting approximately to 4:3:3 is allowed.

No Wonder We Aren't Rich!

Ever considered the cost of raising children? Makes your jaw drop if you think about it too long. It's really a very scary thought, and would certainly put you off considering conception should you think about it too hard prior to planning a child. Obviously you need to think about it at that point, but only in so far as can you afford to bring a child into your life at this point. Children are beautiful and rewarding so who would say "No"?

According to statistics, as parents, most of us will support our children on average until they are 21. This means diapers, buggies, toys, bikes, cots, beds, clothing, formula, foods, shoes, schooling, college, soccer etc etc. That is a lot of stuff to by. On average, these studies show that parents spend £200,000 (1,000) raising EACH of their children from birth to the age of 21. This equates to £800 (50) PER CHILD for each month of their life. No wonder as parents we will never be rich!

These statistics are UK statistics, and the report was stating that the UK is an unfriendly place for families. Thing is, I figured, that it can not be much better anywhere else. The standard of living in the UK is not particularly high - it's not the best, but it sure isn't the worst either. Having discussed this with my wife at length and worked on some figures, I would suggest that the majority of that money goes on your child between the ages of 0 and 8 to 10, when they are least independent and more reliant on us to provide. As they become teenagers, then they can get a small job and provide towards their needs. Whilst at college, they can get a job to assist with college fees or their upkeep.

Most of the money that we spend when our child is between the age of 0 and around 3 goes on diapers, wipes and formula - none of these things are inexpensive. Scrimp on any of these things and you will have thin useless diapers that do not hold their content, wipes your fingers go through and formula that does not give your child what it needs! Clothes and shoes get more expensive as your child passes 8, because they want designer clothing. Toys get more expensive around this time also because they get more complicated and intricate. Education is also expensive, the better the school or college the more it costs to educate your child.

So in view of these facts it could cost less or it could cost more - one thing is for sure though, whatever you earn it will get swallowed up by your child until they are 21. Given that we have 3 children, we are looking at £2400 per month in order to bring them up well - I know we have the children and therefore have no place to complain but surely something could be done to reduce the cost of having children, or how will the human race survive?

Fun Teen Bedding

If your teen is ready for a "new" look in their bedroom, then let us help you. The very first thing to get rid of is the comforter set, sheets, window valances or drapes, and any juvenile decorative pillows and accessories. Your teen then needs to decide on a color and theme for their new room. Teen bedding has come a long way over the years and there are so many colors and styles to choose from. And yes, they even have great boys bedding for teens!

Teenage boys bedding has many popular sports themes, such as hockey, basketball, football, soccer, baseball etc. I hope I didn't miss any! Boys not only can choose their favorite sport, but they can also choose their favorite sports team. The sports team bedding sets are not just for little kids anymore, but they have really cool sports bedding sets for teens. Once you pick your favorite sports team, then you can pick from an assortment of bedding pieces. There is the comforter, sheets, bed skirt, valances or drapes, decorative pillows and wall hangings, and even sports borders for the wall. If you want to carry the sports theme into the bathroom, they even have the matching shower curtain. If you are going to sleep at a buddies house, you can show off your favorite teams sleeping bag.

Teenage girls can choose from popular choices of animal prints, contemporary designs, teen peace sign bedding, flowered prints and even the solid colored comforters are fun, because you can easily dress them up with accessories, such as some fun decorative pillows. The other fun option for girls, is choosing reversible bedding sets. This makes for an ever changing bedroom decor, because you can just change the look by switching the bedding around. If your teenager is afraid to commit to anything more on the daring side, then they could always opt for the solid comforter set. Textures and prints can always be added, with the fun decorative pillows and pillow shams. This choice limits your teens commitment to a certain style, and gives your teen the option to change out their decorative pillows to give their room a new look for a minimal amount of time and money.

Once your child picks out their fun teen bedding, then they can pick out their wall color. Don't be afraid to paint the walls a sharp, bold color, because the wall color is what really pulls the room together. If you are unsure of your color choice, bring your teenage bedding set with you to the paint store, and ask for help. You can even buy small samples of paint for a minimal amount of money, to help insure your decision.

#1 TIP - When You're In Debt, Buy Less

It's funny to look around online and notice how people react in these situations.

For example, did you know that most people when they're in debt, they shell out their savings on the latest business opportunities or the greatest money-making product, hoping this time around they'll strike it rich online?

Or they buy things that they don't need at the moment.

Come on, you know that's absurd and it can be avoided.

And if you're trying to make a buck on the Internet, bear with me.

You know deep in your heart that making money online has nothing or less to do with reading or learning about how to make money online.

It's all about practicing. That's why I want you look at making money online like it's a real sport from now on.

Consider this:

You'll NEVER learn how to play football by watching soccer on TV, or reading a book about it, would you?

The same applies when trying to make money online, whether you face it or not.

#2 TIP - When You're In Debt, Reduce Your Outgoings

You need to face it - you, like everybody else have monthly expenses that you need to pay, sooner or later.

The sad news is that you can't avoid this, yet there's some great news. Debt can be reduced, if you know this secret.

Whether it's cable, rent, phone bill, car loan, hosting account fees, etc., your aim is to reduce your monthly outgoings. Yes, it's possible and anyone can do it.

The first thing you need to be aware is that each and every day you probably spent a few cents and even a few bucks.

If you're used to drink mineral water, tea or coffer every day, you have one little solution - drink less, or avoid drinking and you save a few bucks per week. I'm not kidding - if you're saving per week, that's per month.

Just imagine how much you can save because everything will add up.

90% of all the people who know this think that's childish or it's not going to work, and that's why they're sill struggling in big debt.

You want to avoid this, so you have the solution - right in front of your eyes. But make no mistake about it.

You need to take into consideration all the potential costs you could save, whether daily, weekly, bi-monthly or monthly.

Just think about the magazine subscriptions you don't have time to glance through.

Just think about that monthly PLR (private label rights) service you're subscribed to, maybe it's useless.

Just think about the phone bills - if you have the option to talk less, and be more efficient, why not start to do it?

All these debt reductions will definitely be adding up, so you'll save some money, and live a happier life.

Somebody who knows his stuff could help you better and faster than this article would.

Simple Rules For Maintaining Weight

* Maintaining a healthy weight is on most people's minds. With the temptations of fast foods, processed meals at home and sugary snacks, it's hard to stick to a healthy diet. And with most jobs having long hours, combined with the hectic duty of juggling day to day errands and family, it is often impossible to even think about exercise. However, with all that said, there is hope. There are things that people can do to keep a healthy weight and feel great, without neglecting anything else.

* It is essential to plan everything when you're beginning a healthy lifestyle. Just like when you're making a family budget, creating a healthy plan takes planning and crunching numbers. You will need to write out weekly shopping lists and entail the meals and snacks that you will consume. Eating healthy can sometimes cost a little more, but can be balanced out when sugary snacks and take-out food is omitted from the grocery list.

* When you construct a plan for the week, include a list of daily snacks and possible breakfast, lunch and dinner ideas. It is common on a weekend to be tempted to grab fast food because there is nothing visible to eat in the fridge. If a magnet board is posted on the fridge with meal and even snack ideas, you might remember what you had in mind.

* Keeping a healthy weight relies heavily on will power. An unhealthy lifestyle can sometimes become habit forming and feel like its part of a daily routine. For example it may be normal to stop and get a coffee and doughnut on the way to work, or it may be normal to get fast food every day at lunch. It takes lots of will power to break the normal and step out of your routine. The key is to stick with something that is reasonable to you. So for example, in the morning get a coffee and skip the doughnut, if you crave something sugary opt for a sweet fruit like a berry.

* Adding some workout routines to your week also involves some planning. Think about activities you enjoy and write them all down, then think about some exercise programs that you like or would like to try and write them down, then in a third column, compile a list of activities that you can do to elevate your heart rate, such as walking. With three lists of things to do in front of you, pick three or four things and try to do them in the week. You could incorporate a bike ride, a walk and a recreational class as part of a work-out routine for the week.

* Balancing activities is an important element to sticking to exercise. It is easy to get bored with the same old thing. So for example someone who chooses to walk a few times a week might find it fine for a few weeks but then might get bored and stop the walking and do nothing. It is also crucial to keep active activities a priority. So for example, while grocery shopping and taking the kids to soccer is important, you should also view your activities as important as well.

* Staying active and eating healthy are the easiest ways to maintain a healthy weight. As people get older, metabolism slows down, more feelings of being tired settle in, and the body begins to require more things to stay healthy. Feeling younger and healthy begins with what we put in our body and how we treat it.

Was Golf Originally Played by Men - Or Was Golf Originally a Ladies Game? (Heaven Forbid!)

Sometime last year I visited the Ming exhibition at the Asian Arts museum in San Francisco. My interest was piqued by a hand scroll in colored ink on silk, exquisitely beautiful, which featured in part the "beauty and pleasantry" of the Court ladies' lives in the Inner Palace. This wonderful scroll, attributed to Du Jin (1465-1500), depicted the ladies going about their favorite pastimes, including the serving of snacks (no surprise there!), kicking a ball (Did ladies of that period really play soccer or, better still, American football? - my mind is really going overtime trying to picture that one!)...and, even more curious...playing a GOLF game...Wow!

I, needless to say, did a double take; And, yes, it showed ladies (not men wearing kimonos!) holding a club which was clearly a golf club as we know it today; perhaps not your new Nike square headed driver, but depicting a regular iron, complete with grooves on its face, together with a small golf ball sized ball and a hole. So here we clearly see ladies in China in the late 1400's playing a golf-like game inside the walls of the Imperial Palace.

You, like me, may have heard that the letters GOLF actually stand for "Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden". Although there is clearly no truth in this being the origin of the name "golf", as this type of word play was not in vogue at that time, over the years there has certainly been a particular school of male golfers who think women should be kept well away from the course...

Where did golf really start? And was it played by men or women? A few searches on Google and a quick look at other resources did not provide a conclusive answer.

It would seem that there are many different countries who would like to claim that golf started with them. And there is a certain amount of evidence to support each and every claim. Certainly a golf-like game was played in many counties, not just in Scotland or China, but also in Rome, Holland, Belgium, France and England, to name just a few of these claimant countries.

In China, records show that their particular golf like game, called "chiuwan", was played five hundred years before golf was ever mentioned in Scotland (far earlier also than the date of the scroll I spotted at the Ming exhibition). This particular version was played with 10 clubs, not 14, and there is no reference to it being played over 18 holes and totaling an average par of 72. It is suggested by Chinese researchers that golf could have found its way to Europe compliments of Mongolian travelers sometime in the late middle ages.

The Dutch not only claim to have instigated the game of golf, but also lay claim to naming the game. The Dutch word "colf" actually means club, and colf morphed into golf.

These are just two examples of how golf may have started in Countries other than Scotland.

So, how do the Scottish respond to such claims? They agree that stick and ball games have been played all over the world for centuries, but golf as we know it today, played over 18 holes, did indeed originate in Scotland. And the name golf may very well have come from the Dutch.

And as to whether it was originally played by men or women, the rich or the poor, it is clear that both sexes and people from all levels of society have played golf-like games for many centuries.

Children Forced to Work in Sweatshops

The International Labor Organization (ILO) believes at least 250 million children, between the ages of fourteen and five, work in developing countries. 32% in Africa, 61% in Asia and 7% in Latin America.

Some are confined and beaten and used as slave labour. Many are denied the right to leave the workplace. Many have been abducted. They are deprived of an education and a normal childhood.

Nike displays a good public image by contributing to charity and providing equipment and likes to tell the public that it has set up stitching centers in places like as Sialkot, Pakistan. Nike however, has been blamed of applying child labour in the manufacture of its soccer balls in Pakistan.

Many children work in sweatshops in nations around the world, where they are subjected to severe and brutal working conditions, as they are exploited, abused and arbitrarily disciplined.
Just a few of the industries involved in this horrendous trade are:

• Shoes and Copy Handbags
The major problem is found with sneakers and athletic shoes, as the majority are manufactured in sweatshops in Asian countries, including Reebok shoes.

• Sporting Goods
From soccer balls to cricket balls, a great number are produced in Asian sweatshops

• Brassware and Base Metal Articles
Children take out molten metal from moulds in furnaces at approximately 2000 degrees Fahrenheit and are involved in nearly all the process of brassware production.

• Clothing
The majority of garment workers in the U.S. are immigrant women who work 60-80 hours a week. They are usually with no minimum wage or overtime pay. Overseas, children are pressurized into working in clothing sweatshops.

• Rugs
Nearly one million children are illegally employed creating hand-knotted rugs worldwide. Approximately 75% of Pakistan's carpet weavers are girls under 14.

• Toys
Toys manufactured in countries like Thailand, Vietnam, or China, regularly use child labour.

• Fireworks
Fireworks are manufactured in India using child labour.

• Chocolate
43 percent of cocoa beans come from the Ivory Coast where child labour is huge business, many being trafficked across the borders from neighbouring nations.

• Coffee
Coffee is the second largest United States import, after oil. Many small coffee farmers are forced to accept prices for their coffee that are under the cost of production, thrusting them into an endless cycle of debt and poverty, frequently using child labour.

Children are trafficked for camel races in the Middle East, the sex industry, used to pay off a debt, garbage collectors, in mines, to being made soldiers in bloody conflicts or being forced to maneuver as professional pickpockets in Romania. Many are engaged in drug trafficking and theft.

Other industries in which child labour is rampant are leather, wool cleaning, wood and cork glass, products furniture and fixtures and rubber products, printing, publishing and allied trades. Countless numbers of children are employed as domestic servants, workers in hotels, wayside shops, canteens, hawkers, restaurants, sweet and ice crème vendors and newspaper sellers.

The list looks endless, in spite of the legislation forbidding child labour.

Amy Fearn - The First Woman Referee In England

Amy Fearn has made history in English football by becoming the first woman to referee an English Football League match.

The match between Coventry City and Nottingham Forest took place on Tuesday 9th February 2010 at the Ricoh Arena, and was originally refereed by Tony Bates, who commenced the match, he sustained a calf injury and had to be replaced after 70 minutes of the game, he was then replaced by Amy Fearn, who was one of his assistants, making her the first woman to referee a League game in England.

Fearn aged 31, has been refereeing since the age of 16, and has been a referee in the Football Conference and a referee's assistant in the Football League for nearly seven years.

Women have been linesmen more correctly now called referees assistants since the 1990's, but this was the first occasion a woman has actually refereed a Football League match. The historic moment was greeted with cheers from the 18,000 strong crowd, when Fearn blew her first whistle. With Coventry already 1-0 in front, she didn't have to make any controversial decisions during her twenty minutes in charge.

Fearn would one day like to officiate in the Premier League, although that possibility still looks to be a long way into the future. The question remains as to why women aren't regularly officiating at football matches

Although her twenty minutes of League football passed without incident, she was heavily criticized by Luton Town manager Mike Newell in 2006 when she was running the line and declined his team a penalty. Newell was quoted as saying " It's bad enough with incapable referees and linesmen but if you start bringing women into the game, you have big problems" he then suggested that women in football was a just token of political correctness. Newell was later fined for his comments and offered a full apology.

So is the lack of female referees due to a chauvinistic attitude of a male dominated sport, or are women simply not up to the job. The role of the referee is viewed as a tough job both physically and mentally, but a national shortage of referees could be solved if more women were encouraged to take up the role.

It maybe a case of proving that women are up to the job, by seizing the opportunities as they arise, avoiding errors, and demonstrating they can do the job just as well. If that is the case then Amy Fearn has made the first positive step on what could be a very long journey.

10 Great Reasons Football Coaching Will Help You

If you play football then you might already play for a club, and be a regular in the first team.  If you just have a kick around with friends in the park every so often, but want to play for a team, then football coaching could be just what you need.

Here are 10 reasons that football coaching will help you.

1. You'll improve as a player, as you play more often, and become better at reading the game, and know what's expected of you.  You might have never played in a team before, or never played 11 a side for 90 minutes.  You might have never had proper training sessions, with soccer drills and exercise routines.

2. You'll learn a lot from your team mates, and coach / manager.  Some of these players / coaches or managers might have been professionals, and know exactly what they are talking about, and what works and what doesn't work.

3. Playing regularly will ensure that you get fitter.  Playing for half an hour with a hangover every couple of weeks is not the same as playing for 90 minutes on a Saturday and a mid week training session.

4. You'll learn more about commitment and responsibility, whether it's turning up for training when you don't feel like it, or following your manager's instructions even when you don't think they are working.  You might not be the most prolific striker, or skilful player, but your commitment and enthusiasm will ne noted by those who matter.

5. Proper football coaching will help you to avoid injury through over training, or doing the wrong sort of exercise regimes.  If you do suffer an injury, knowing how to deal with your injury will help you on your road to recovery

6. If you go through a loss of form, your football coach and manger will be able to help you.  Perhaps it's just a lack of confidence, or is there something else that's affecting your game?

7. You'll get the chance to play for a team, and all that that entails.  Perhaps you've never played for a team before, or you've been playing for many years.  You'll find that you learn something new every game, which will help to make you a better player, and a better person.

8. You'll make friends with your new team mates, and learn their strengths, both on and off the pitch.

9. By playing for a team there's more chance of you playing more regularly, and if you think that you can impress the scouts for a professional team, then you might just make it

10.  By being able to play the game properly you'll enjoy it more, and get more out of the game. You won't be frustrated when your mates don't turn up, or are hung over and not interested in playing.  Playing for a team will make you proud and rightly so.

If you just want to play in the park with your mates, then that's fine, but if you want to play professionally you'll have to make the commitment to be the best you can be.  When you look back in a few years time, will you think "if only"?

How To Prevent Our Children Developing High Blood Pressure

About one third of adults in the western world have high blood pressure, and that figure is growing rapidly. High blood pressure makes people five times more prone to strokes, and three times more likely to have a heart attack.

Our children of today are the adults of tomorrow, so we really owe it to them to do all we can to protect them from this killer disease.

So where do you start? Well, diet and exercise are the most important factors to consider. Their diet should be rich in calcium, magnesium, vitamins, fiber and potassium, and low in salt (sodium chloride), saturated fats and trans fats (hydrogenated oil).

The first thing to cut down (preferably eliminate) is junk foods and processed foods as these are usually high in salt, saturated fats and trans fats. There's no need to stop them eating meat, but remember that white meat such as chicken and turkey are best, and red meat should be lean with as much fat removed. If they want burgers it's far better to make them yourself from lean mince meat, and don't add any salt.

Fish is a great source of protein and omega 3. "Oily" fish such as salmon and mackerel are best, but all fresh fish are good. Be careful with frozen fish fingers and fish cakes as they often contain added salt and other undesirable ingredients, so check the label.

Introduce as much of a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables as you can into their diet. Vegetables should preferably be steamed, or cooked in as little unsalted water as possible to maintain their goodness.

If your children don't like it, then tough! They are your responsibility. Be firm.

Exercise is almost as important as a healthy diet, especially if they are overweight. Okay, so they may want to sit in front of the television or computer, and that's okay, in moderation. It's your job to get them to take part in some sort of exercise or activity that will get their lungs and heart working. Take a look around your area for clubs they could join, such as swimming, athletics, cycling or soccer clubs.

Again, remember that you are doing it for their long-term benefit. They are your responsibility. Be firm. For their sake, just do it.
