Unhappy Child?

Modern life is stressful, not just for adults but just as much for children. Children face a great deal of pressure to excel in school, perform in sports, and out do themselves in everything they participate in. Children go from school to soccer to piano lessons, with little time left to just be kids and spend some time in a make believe world dreaming and playing.

Childhood hood should be full of memorable moments - a joyous time, sadly too much of the time children are experiencing anger, irritability, boredom, and sadness. As a parent, what can you do to make the situation better? If you find that your child is spending too much time crying or sad, not participating in activities, has a low self-esteem, is bored, self-destructive, or hostile to others, this article should be read very carefully.

Scientific Research According to research at the University of London and Warwick University, the incidence of depression among young people has doubled over the past 12 years. And over the last 10 years, the number of children on antidepressants has grown steadily to around 40,000, until the virtual ban on giving them to children in 2004, in recognition of their ineffectiveness and the increased risk of suicide associated with them.

What Can Cause Unhappiness in Children? Even though anger is a negative emotion, all of us including our children are allowed to express it. Some children become angry because of something that happens at school, but they may bottle is up, instead becoming depressed. One very important yet sadly hardly ever recognized issues is that nutrition plays a very important role in the psychological health of your kids. If you provide your child with the correct nutrition, you will see miraculous results - Their moods will change, the will be motivated to deal with the difficulties, that are part of life, and they will have endless energy. Sadly, there are only a few pediatricians and psychotherapists who recognize that proper nutrition will help children balance their brain biochemistry.

Here are the common imbalances tied to nutrition, which may worsen a child's motivation and mood: Blood sugar imbalances Deficiencies of nutrients Deficiencies of tryptophan and tyrosine Allergies and sensitivities to food

A very large factor in a depression or a low mood in children, is the inability to control blood glucose levels. You can do a great deal for your child simply by ensuring that you provide regular, healthy meals. Breakfast, as well as lunch, and dinner, and healthy snacks.

Killer Tips on Coaching High School Soccer

When it comes to coaching high school soccer, the first step towards success is the confidence building amongst players who have the potential to become brilliant players. When you declare that the players are under immense pressure, you as a coach are hinting to the fact that your players lack confidence to face a situation. This is because it is only with confidence that we expect success.

Confidence again is a matter of choice and only a player can make this choice. In coaching youth soccer, use the behaviors of two parrots perched on either shoulders to demonstrate this point.

Out of the two, one has a positive behavior and he keeps telling the player to face the challenges head on by saying "You can do it." The second one is a negative parrot that is always cautioning the player "You can't do this." And it's their choice to select which player to pay attention to.

Once the choice has been made, teach them to take responsibility for their actions. This choice may have to made every single day. Build confidence in the players by emphasizing their involvement in past successes and ready successful players to make a strong team.

Train the players of the fact that in soccer coaching that putting the blame on something or someone else is a mark of insecurity. Rather teach players to take the setbacks as an integral part of the learning curve and not something to deter their confidence levels.

Also, in coaching high school soccer, the players should learn by heart the phrase "I'll get the next one" to keep them going whenever they lose any opportunity. Automatically, the confidence for the next strike overshadows the distress of the miss.

A team is said to be successful if you have the ability to make quick judgments regarding a player's ability to survive in competition. Judging physical readiness in football coaching is relatively easier than judging mental readiness.

Such a judgment needs clear messages. It is necessary to deeply go through the player's spoken and unspoken messages about his or her knack to succeed in the game.

Success and confidence share a parent- child relationship. And success in soccer is more likely when you know you have done everything you could to get ready for situations that might build pressure. "If you are not preparing to win, you are preparing to fail" is a phrase often used to motivate players.

Experience is essential to build confidence. The players must be accustomed to their doubts, mistakes, defeats and condemnation so as to establish the experience they need. The feeling that he or she has the knowledge has some experience and knows how to handle the situations, always prevails.

Never doubt it. In coaching high school soccer, constructing confidence is a daily task and hence, players should intimate on the key steps to find out their positives.

The top Wii games for families, rated E for Everyone, are fun challenges and activities so that players young and old can enjoy them.

For example, there are sports titles like soccer and base ball for young children, and all it requires is that they swing the motion sensitive controller. But some of the games even target getting kids exercising. There are also games based on favorite dolls like Barbie and Disney characters, or super heroes like Batman. Other games are virtual pet games, where kids can play with a variety of animals. Favorite television characters have their own games too, like Dora the Explorer, Diego or Bob the Builder.

For parents who are interested in providing educational games, there are plenty of those available too. The Reader Rabbit and Jump Start games have made the hop from a PC-based learning game onto the Wii console. There are also brain puzzler games for older kids. There there are the games that don't fit any special category - like karaoke-type singing games, and dance competition challenges. These keep kids moving, while singing and dancing along with their favorite pop tunes.

Most parents are simply concerned about the features depending on their child's age. Whether a game is violent, or contains inappropriate images, might be difficult to determine before you purchase the game. That's why it's helpful to read review sites, which describe the activity content and have screen shots or videos showing the actual display.

Homogeneity and Teaching in Seoul, South Korea (Corea)

One thing that you immediately notice as a Westerner in Korea, in the first few hours in fact, is how homogenous Korea is: there are very few white people. For the first time in my life, I felt very conscious of how my white skin set me aside from others in society, as I walked the streets of Korea. Korea, I remember reading a year ago in the Korean press, is made up of close to 96% Korean and only about 4% non-Korean people. Take a walk around London, England and you will notice how multi-cultural the city is. Seoul is, I understand, the most homogenous capital city in the world - or at least in the developed world.

If we travel abroad from our home country we all become foreigners. As a Korean in England you would be a foreigner and as an Englishman in Korea I became the foreigner. The only thing is, in Korea as a foreigner one becomes far more aware of the fact because of the homogeneity. My experiences were though, very positive, as I first stayed in the area of 'Miasamgeori' in Seoul. Children automatically would say 'hello' in English and start giggling and people in most situations were almost always very friendly - although sometimes too friendly. A few times on the subway within the first few months, a few people started testing their English out on me, at times when I sometimes did not feel like teaching English out of work. Within ten minutes I would also usually have a business card thrust into my hand without asking.

During the first few months in Seoul, with the Iraq war on (as 2003 approached), I was also conscious that, as a white person, I would be automatically presumed to be American, such is the influence of America on Korean culture and politics. There was the odd negative stare, but it was always from middle or older aged men. Comparing to landing in the U.S. for the first time, such as J.F.K Airport in New York, with the policemen walking around with guns and people twice the size and twice the weight as Koreans, Korea from the first moment felt pretty comfortable to be in. The expected culture shock did not happen, maybe perhaps because I have travelled a lot over the last few years.

No British Please. American preferred

I came to Korea without already having a job set-up, but I knew that English teaching jobs are plentiful in Korea. Searching for an English teaching job in Korea was a strange experience though. In England, English people talk about American English as though it is a bastardised version of the Queen's English. I have travelled and lived in the U.S.A. extensively and personally I really enjoyed America and I like some of the American English expressions. If you go to America they usually love the English accent. In Europe though, Europeans usually dislike the loud, brash American accent. It was thus a surprise on attending my first interview for an English teaching job and then being rejected, because I was from England. I was told that an American or Canadian accent is preferred. The perfect country I would have expected, to be from if teaching English, was England. Clearly when first arriving in Seoul, I was a virgin in terms of knowing how much of an influence America has been on Korea.

Let me use this opportunity just clear up three things that I was asked literally a hundred times and which even to British people can be confusing.

What is the difference between the U.K., Great Britain and England?

Answer: The U.K. is a country that comprises of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Great Britain excludes Northern Ireland and England is just England - a territory in the U.K. Confused? Don't worry about it.

2. How come England, Scotland and Wales all have separate International football (soccer) teams?

Answer: I don't know. Please can someone tell me the answer by emailing me.

3. How did President Bush in the U.S. manage to get elected 3 times?

Answer: I don't know

History Of Soccer - Interesting Facts

Soccer has become increasingly more popular in the United States in the last 30 years, with nearly 3 million children between the ages of 5-19 now playing in youth soccer leagues throughout the nation.

Soccer began in England in the mid-1800's, and was originally played by the higher, more aristocratic English classes in their boarding schools and private clubs. The ease and inexpense of the sport quickly moved it ahead as a sport for the masses however. Today soccer is ranked as one of the world's leading sports for commoners.

The London Football Association was founded and 1863 and is responsible for standardizing game rules throughout Europe. In less than 20 years, professional players and teams were hitting the field.

Soccer began to spread throughout Europe almost immediately, with Spain, Germany, Italy, and France all taking up the game b the early 20th century. As interest in the sport grew throughout the world, so did an interest in formal competition. In 1900, the first soccer game was played at the Olympics, with medals introduced just eight years later. Professional players, however, were exempt from competition in the Olympic Games for more than 80 years.

In 1904, The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), was formed, followed by the first World Cup international competition in 1930. A round-robin style tournament that pits teams from individual nations against each other every four years, the World Cup has grown into an international affair, with nearly 200 teams now seeking admittance. Only 24 are permitted to compete.

Although it took the United States years to enter the soccer arena on a widespread basis, the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) was formed in 1913. Unfortunately, most Americans preferred watching (and playing) a different form of the sport -- American football -- until a Brazilian named Pele, (considered to the greatest soccer player of all time), joined the N.Y. Cosmos team in 1975. With such an amazing player to watch in America, popularity of the sport grew throughout the states, until his retirement in 1977, when soccer once again took a backseat to football. Following Pele's retirement, the North American Soccer League slowly lost fan support, finally dissolving in 1985.

It wasn't until the men's World Cup competition, was held in the United States in 1994, that soccer interest was renewed among American youth. The Major League Soccer (MLS), was founded in 1993, and began its first season in 1996 with 10 teams and 32 regular season games. More than 3 million fans watched the playoffs that year. By 1991, women were finally allowed to play on a professional level, when the Women's World Cup competition was introduced for the first time.

The interest in youth soccer remains strong throughout the United States today. Sports teams and leagues are now available in nearly every American community. From pee-wee players who aren't even in school yet, to semi-professional high school teams, players of all interest and abilities are now hitting the soccer field for both spring and fall competition. The U.S. Youth Soccer, a division of the USSF, now includes nearly 3 million official players.

Visualise Your Way to the Top

Have you ever wondered why it seems that other people that you know or hear about appear to achieve so much success in everything that they do, while you may dream of success but it always appears to be just out of reach?

As I write this the world's top golfers are playing in the British Open Golf Championship, on the wind and rain swept dunes of Royal Birkdale, the world's top athletes are preparing to meet the greatest challenge of their career at the Olympic Games and almost as a side show the world's top soccer players prepare for the new season ahead with all the challenges that the Premier, or Seria 'A' or La Liga may bring. Amateurs may dress for success but professionals prepare for success.

What can these top sports people teach us in our efforts? What is their key to success? In deed what is success?

The magic of success is that no matter if you try to achieve it through a formal goal setting programme or not there is success for all attainable. Now that may sound a very broad-brush stroke attempt to try to appeal to everyone who may be reading this article. There are success factors that if you follow them you will taste success maybe for the first time in your life.

Every professional sports person regardless of their sport try to achieve one thing, every time they go on a golf course, a running track or a football field, it is beyond goal setting theory, they want to better their personal best result. For some that will mean challenging for the top honours in their sport, for others success is being better than their previous best effort. Sounds easy but if you were to beat your personal best effort every time you would be very quickly at the top of your chosen profession fighting for the top honours.

So one of the first lessons you can learn in your quest for success is that you do not need to be the best in order to feel successful you do need to be the best you can be at everything you do.

The second lesson you can learn and the most important lesson, one that guarantees that you will achieve a personal best, is to follow a simple technique in your personal goal setting that is used by all the top sport and business people. Without this technique in spite of months and sometimes years of training and devotion to their sport or business, they would probably not appear on the honours board. That technique is Visualisation.

The technique involves using your imagination to picture yourself in your ideal situation to help you reach a personal goal. Visualisations unique selling point is that it is easy to do.

The magic is that we experience the world using visualisation, when you are asleep, you visualise events in your dreams. When you are talking or reading you picture images (not words) in your mind, as you read this article you cannot prevent your mind building images of golfers, runners, footballers, sports stars of every sport known to you.

If you lack the results you want in life it could be that your visualisation is weak, it is a problem not a solution. You could visualise the worst case scenario instead of the best case.

When your boss asks you to come to his office, do you imagine that you have done something wrong and could be about to lose your job? Do you find yourself imagining being reprimanded rather than receiving a promotion or a pay rise?

Visualisation is about focusing on what you want to happen as opposed to what you wish to leave behind.

Following two seasons of struggle after their promotion from the Conference in 2004, manager Mark Wright has overhauled the squad in a bid to build a team capable of challenging at the upper end of the table.

Wright has signed tricky forward Jermaine McSporran on a free transfer from Doncaster Rovers and secured the services of Blackburn Rovers striker Jonathan Walters who spent last season on loan at Wrexham. Rushden & Diamonds campaigner Drewe Broughton, who netted 10 goals last term, including five in an eight game spell as relegated Diamonds hit form, also arrived on a free transfer.

The trio will have to find the goals missing due to the departure of last season's top goal scorer Ryan Lowe, who left to challenge himself in a higher division with Crewe Alexandra.

Watford's Jamie Hand know's what is expected of him following his transfer after loan spells at Northampton Town and Peteborough United last season while Phil Bolland has returned to the club after just five months at Peterborough.

Verdict

With such a change in personnel it is difficult to judge how well the Blues will fair next season. Ryan Lowe's departure is a blow but the rest of the players they have signed are arguably of better quality than those let go. An improvement on last season's fifteenth place is a must and Mark Wright's side could enjoy a top 10 finish.

Where Did Soccer Start?

Where did soccer start? That's the question that many people tend to ask when getting interested with the history of the game. Many scholarly documents have showcased that soccer started in China or at Greece or Rome. When one looks at the time line of the civilizations, there can be conclusions about when and where did soccer start.

According to the documented manuals from the military of the Chinese during the Han Dynasty, there are clear implications of the origin of the game in China. This game has been considered as a game that utilized feet in order to score a point and win against the opposing team. The earliest civilizations that provided documents about their way of living and activities are the ancient Chinese civilizations and the Greek and Roman civilizations. From them, historians had picked up soccer's possible beginnings due to the provided evidences that presented the presence of soccer in their communities.

Clearly, soccer was not yet named as soccer back then, in China it was named as Cuju, a game that made use of the feet in order to play and win. According to documents, from the Han dynasty up to the Chinese Tang Dynasty, Cuju evolved into an extraordinary and enjoyable game for the people of China which eventually led to other countries near them to adapt this game. So it is safe to say that China is the place where soccer started. But if you think of the history of the origin of the modern soccer or association football, England is the place that marks that one.

Changes on the French Soccer Team

After a devastating performance for the French National Soccer team in South Africa, they've appointed a new coach. Laurent Blanc will now be the man in charge in bringing this squad back to the powerhouse they once were.

His first move is a tough move that sets the tone early. Every player that was on the World Cup roster will be dropped from their next international match. He means business and if his players don't, then they can go home!

The French federation approved of this move. I guess they think it's the right move and have allowed Blanc to make these suspensions after the embarrassing performance they put on.

Changes on the French Soccer Team

This power move shows the players whose boss. France couldn't even win a game in the group stage, but to make matters worse the team went on strike while in South Africa. For a team to protest and refuse to practice is a disgrace.

Blanc has a lot of work to do before their friendly match vs. Norway on 8/11. He must select an entire new squad. This is in preparation for the European Championship as they must change things around. Their previous performance at the Euro Championship was also a disgrace as they failed to win a game.

The French side faced drama during the World Cup due to the newspapers making things worse. They publicly shared Anelka's harsh words of former Coach Domenech as he spoke his mind at halftime vs. Mexico. It was the French federation that made the decision to send Anelka home.

This is when things got even worse. The entire squad decided to strike and sit out of practice the next day. To make things worse, the captain Evra was caught on camera in an unpleasant conversation with their fitness trainer.

This created a ton of publicity in France to the point that political leaders were even questioning this situation. Legendary players shared their opinions as well and Lilian Thurman went on to say that Evra should be banned from the French side. Blanc has a lot of work to do, but things can't get much worse.
